Modernizing manufacturing through digital transformation

Digital disruption – and transformation – is coming slowly to the Canadian manufacturing industry. So slow, in fact, that more than 40% of manufacturers have not even begun planning for digital projects [read more on that here].

But change is coming. Because, well, it has to.

In fact, to prepare for digital transformation, manufacturers are expected to spend more than $4B in 2018 on IT services and solutions. A recent study by IDC Canada of IT professionals in the manufacturing sector showed that investments in analytics and cloud applications – two pivotal technologies for digital transformation – will increase over the next five years. At the same time, manufacturers have older data centres that will need an upgrade to process all that new traffic.

Kathy Cheng, president of Canadian manufacturer WS & Co., recently sat down with us to discuss her thoughts on digital transformation in the manufacturing industry.
