As we enter 2015, we gathered together our experts to make bold predictions about what the year ahead will hold in terms of technology trends.
We hear predictions from Sarah Eccleston, Director, Enterprise Networks, Adam Grennan, Country Manager, Ireland and Tom Kneen, Head of Business Development at Cisco BIG. But wait.. there’s more: I also joined in with the crystal ball gazing and you can read my predictions for 2015 here.
Before diving into the individual prediction blogs via the links above, why not see all the key predictions visualised in the infographic below:

I’m doing a degree in Computer Science and we are constantly being told we are the designers of the future. I think the only limitations we have are our own imagination. Unfortunately it does seem to be a two tier dilemma. If you live in a large town or city the potential is enormous but in some rural areas, especially in the UK, you can’t even get a decent mobile reception and this poses a another dilemma, is the access to the Internet a necessity or a luxury?
Hi Mary. Personally it is a necessity (…the UN did declare it a basic Human Right!) Just try going on holiday without a data connection and see how long it takes you to start searching for a WiFi hotspot! Connectivity can be an issue in rural areas in the UK but it’s surely just a matter of time until the infrastructure makes it to the countryside, we’ve already come a very long way in the last 10 years alone. Good luck in your degree. Lucas
As an employee of Cisco’s largest global gold partner IoE is fast becoming my life. Remember though that the technology is only the enabler to a connected building, city or world…most critical is the ability to deliver and support these huge infrastructures. Still too many property developers and councils aren’t on board with open architecture systems and here is where Cisco are spreading the word better than anyone else. Great work Cisco….for me I know that if I have a question Cisco will have a white paper on it..
Hi Stuart, thanks for the comment and appreciate the support. Always good to know that our partners are so supportive in the IoE space.
Nice article ! Good work !
Thank you Canaria!
I agree with much of what is said. Wearables will definitely skyrocket in use especially as integration with health measures happen. I think 3D printing will mature but still in its infancy, I think it’s development to maturity is 2-3 years away.
I think the Internet of everything will flourish even more as technology to explore more ways to extend the Internet happen. My fear is that efforts on security won’t keep up, both on a consumer side as well as business.
I think the IoE will continue to help make progress in terms of climate change and a connected city but these are still much longer term projects. With its geographic limitations I would like to see Pittsburgh harvest even more technology to make the city even more livable.
I think the Internet has made our world a smaller place which is good. Worldwide collaboration helped my daughter’s doctors in Pittsburgh find ways to ease the symptoms of chemotherapy from a worldwide collaborative database. They found a patient who had the same metrics and symptoms and found what worked for that patient, it also worked for my daughter. That’s the power of the Internet!
Thanks Cisco for your continued efforts in driving technology. I have a couple of ideas that maybe we can collaborate on. Here in Pittsburgh we have a problem with abandoned or foreclosed houses, I would like to see an innovation block where leading technology companies showcase the house of the future for everyone to see. I would also like to see if we could push the envelope here for better traffic management.

Hi Sean,
Thanks for the detailed comment! Great to hear your thoughts and that the Internet/IoE’s development has had so much of an affect on yours and your daughters lives.
There are several Cisco technologies that fit into the house of the future, my personal favourite is Fresco https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DyZ_GfUcdUw.
Hope you enjoy the rest of our blogs,
Lucas
