“Meet our Security and Software Teams” is a series of articles introducing teams or individuals at Cisco Poland, who work with Cisco’s most strategic technologies. This story features Jorge Quintero, who started with the TAC team in Krakow and now excels as a Technical Marketing Engineer, specializing in Cisco Secure Workload to enhance data center and cloud security through microsegmentation.
There’s a certain dynamism within the world of technology that propels careers forward in unexpected, yet fulfilling, directions. Jorge Quintero started his journey with Cisco by initially applying for a position in Cisco Brussels but ended up joining the TAC team in Krakow, where he dove deep into the Firewall team. Over the course of three years, Jorge not only mastered the responsibilities of a TAC engineer but also took on the challenge of leading the team. Transitioning from the fast-paced, reactive world of TAC, our colleague found their next challenge in what was then known as Advanced Services, now our Professional Services. Here, the focus shifted from solving immediate issues to a proactive strategy.
In 2021, another opportunity arose, marking a transition to the Business Unit Engineering as a Technical Marketing Engineer. In this role, Jorge now plays a key role in ensuring product success. They are the bridge between the product and the various arms of Cisco, including sellers and partners. Their mission is to communicate the benefits and use cases of our products and to gather feedback that can influence product development to stay competitive.
The product that Jorge works on is Cisco Secure Workload – a security product designed by Cisco to provide protection for workloads in data centers and cloud environments. It uses a zero-trust model, meaning it assumes no device or user is trustworthy until verified. He specializes in microsegmentation, which is a core feature. It is a method of creating secure zones in data centers and cloud environments to isolate workloads from one another and secure them individually. This approach enhances security within the internal network and reduces the attack surface.
Technical Marketing Engineering plays a crucial role in networking, observability, and security. These areas are of paramount importance to Cisco and represent the core of our customer engagement. As a company, we are committed to openness and innovation, as evidenced by our involvement with open-source solutions. This commitment allows not only Cisco but also the broader community to explore and develop new applications, thus fostering an environment of collective advancement.
