President’s Innovation Challenge – Making a difference today, for tomorrow!

December 3, 2013

I am proud to announce that Cisco is the Premier Partner and the Official Information and Communications Technology Provider of the TORONTO 2015 Pan Am/Parapan Am Games!  The Games will take place from July 10th – July 26th and August 7th – 14th 2015, involving municipalities stretching from Oshawa to Welland!

Presidents Innovation Challange

We will build an end-to-end network infrastructure for the Games including wireless, network security, collaboration, video, TelePresence, Unified Compute and Cloud Services offering customized Cisco Connected Stadium Wi-FI and StadiumVision Solutions to engage fans in experiencing the Games like never before!

Our engagement doesn’t stop there! Beyond just the technology, Cisco is also committed to investing in Canadian innovation by investing in our people.  We are launching a new program called The I Can… initiatives, which involve multiple programs aimed at developing knowledge and stimulating transformative innovations within our youth, college and our business entrepreneurs.

The first program we are launching is in partnership with Sheridan College, Fuse Marketing and Soft Gravity.  The President’s Innovation Challenge will invite Sheridan College students from multiple disciplines to participate in an initiative aimed at developing a new innovation that will help build smart connections and enhanced experiences between the 2015 Games, the province of Ontario, and the fans.

Ideas may range from creating an app to help visitors navigate through the streets of Toronto and the Greater Golden Horsehoe or building a partnership with downtown businesses to promote special offers.  The idea is to help set up our province for success and help make this the most connected Games ever.

Students will be asked to develop and present their ideas at an idea-a-thon on January 11, 2014 at Sheridan’s Oakville campus.  We will have mentors on site to help the students refine their pitches.

The best part is, we will be assisting the winning group to develop their idea by providing them with a $10,000 cash prize which will be determined by a panel of judges. Fame and fortune – if that doesn’t sound exciting, what does?

For those of you who can’t make it, we are also offering you the opportunity to participate via social media. On January 11th, 2014 follow the conversation by using the hashtag #CiscoTO2015 and vote for your favourite idea to win the People’s Choice Award.

Be apart of the conversation and join us on January 11th, 2014.
