Employees name Cisco Canada Best Employer

October 31, 2012

Let’s face it. We spend most of our waking hours at work! And it’s important that your workplace is an environment that allows you to perform at your very best. You want to be challenged, to work with people you respect, be recognized for your contribution, have some flexibility in terms of how you manage your time and, most important from my standpoint, have fun while you’re at it!

At Cisco Canada – we understand this. And so we work very hard to create a high performance, collegial environment that empowers our employees to thrive. We’re not perfect, but we dedicate a lot of time and energy into making this a truly great place to work.

So we were enormously excited and proud when we learned last week that Cisco Canada had been named Best Employer in Canada by Aon Hewitt. This means so much to us – because it’s based on what our people say about working at Cisco. It measures their level of enthusiasm and “engagement” – their commitment to the organization and to our customers. Honestly, we can have all the workforce programs in the world. But, at the end of the day, it’s our employees that make Cisco Canada the organization it is, one committed to giving back, fostering empowerment and working together to achieve success.  And we won this recognition because of our wonderful, innovative and energized employees. I know I am biased, but I can tell you that Cisco Canada is, in fact, a great place to work.

We are among a prestigious group of organizations, whose employees, Cisco Canada included, chose their workplaces as one of the 50 best in the county. The Aon Hewitt study this year surveyed a total of 280 organizations representing the opinions of 190,000 Canadian employees. Rankings were determined from the results of employee-opinion and leadership-team surveys, with the employee survey carrying the greater weight. The Best Employers is the only national study where employees determine the best places to work in Canada, and this year our employees showed us that Cisco Canada is a great place to work – an honour we received entirely because of them and their passion and commitment to being the best they can be, as individuals, and as teams. And it’s a great team.

Aon Hewitt says the “primary requirement for being recognized as a Best Employer is creating and sustaining a highly engaged workforce…According to Aon Hewitt’s definition, employees are engaged when they “say, stay and strive”: they speak positively about their employer to others, are committed to staying with their current employer, and are motivated by their organizations’ leaders, managers, culture and values to go “above and beyond” to contribute to business success.”

We want to congratulate all other Best Employer honorees on their commitment and success in creating workplaces that promote engagement. The study is a tremendous endorsement of the workplace culture that organizations across Canada offer to our citizens and make Canada a great place to work!
