The extraordinary potential that the Internet of Everything has to change our lives was discussed by Cisco Chief Technology and Strategy Officer, Padmasree Warrior during the Web Summit in Dublin recently.

During the on stage interview with Jonathan Krim from the Wall Street Journal the immense scale of the opportunity to continue to connect devices to the internet was explored. Today only 0.6% of the potential devices that could be connected are connected. Our World, once the remaining 99.4% are connected, will be substantially different than it is today.

The Internet of Things is already here, even with that small percentage of devices connected. The interview included a short video highlighting some of the everyday activities that are already being enhanced through the use of Internet of Everything technologies. The full interview is available online and the Internet of Things demo video commences after a minute and a half:

Away from the main stage, Cisco were also present on the exhibition floor demonstrating the Connected Rail Solution that is enabled through Cisco hardware and software technologies such as IOx, the ISR819 Router and the IE2000/IE3000 switches. More details of the solution is available on the Cisco Connected Transportation site. The Internet of Things will dramatically change our lives and many of the technologies that will enable this change are already available to us.

Cisco’s vision of Connecting the Unconnected is being realised, so now is a great time to explore the opportunities and technologies that are turning that vision into reality.
