Summary: Why connecting women is about inclusion, not exclusion

The female economy is powerful, and it’s only going to get stronger. Numbers from the Harvard Business Review show that women control around $20 trillion in annual consumer spending, and that figure could rise as high as $28 trillion towards the end of the decade.

At the same time, there’s still a major imbalance when it comes to the gender split in British workplaces. The government’s Women on Boards report from 2011 opens with the bleak thought that “at the current rate of change it will take over 70 years to achieve gender-balanced boardrooms in the UK.” Much work still needs to be done.

Cisco’s Connected Women is a global network that develops women at Cisco, educates the entire Cisco organisation and reaches out to the wider business world while nurturing and inspiring business women of our future. Built on three pillars – internal network and development, inspiring the next generation and creating business and community impact – the network has many chapters around the globe, of which the UK&I is just one.
