Summary: Infosec and the Internet of Everything

It’s a little over a week since I and other members of the Cisco Security team descended on Earl’s Court for Infosec 2014. It was actually my first time at the show, which is something of an embarrassing admission for an IT security professional, although I do at least have the excuse of having spent a number of years working in Asia.

I digress; Infosec was a brilliant event (if you couldn’t make it along yourself, the official site features some great wrap-up videos). What really made the difference for me was that so many of the people I saw there were so senior, even in spite of London’s transport woes at the time.

The show was brimming with Chief Information Security Officers, or CISOs, which lead to a number of great conversations about what’s happening in their business beyond just security and how it affects them.

One common topic of discussion was the Internet of Things (and our own take on that, the Internet of Everything). Like any other developing IT concept – just as it was with cloud, mobility, big data – one of the first considerations is what the security impact will be.
