Success for Cisco Young Women Engineer

December 9, 2016

Gemma (left) is an Cisco UK&I Apprentice Network Consulting Engineer working in Solution Validation Services in Green Park, where she has completed a number of different testing engagements for high profile customers, including; implementing a next generation wireless network and performing a data centre upgrade.

She has worked exceptionally hard to progress through her apprenticeship completing many of her Cisco certifications ahead of schedule, alongside developing her skills and experience during her role rotations. Following her initial application, Gemma was shortlisted to present her technical experience and commitment to promoting STEM to a panel of distinguished IET members, including; the Publishing Director of the IET’s professional magazine and the President of the Women’s Engineering Society!

Gemma was selected as one of five finalists, three of which were also apprentices in engineering roles at Thales, Rolls Royce and Jaguar Land Rover, all of whom have extremely prestigious Apprenticeship programmes; so, I’m delighted that Gemma was chosen as the recipient of the Mary George Memorial Prize for Apprentices in recognition of her achievements.

Gemma will now feature as a prominent part of the IET’s women in engineering campaign, #9percentisnotenough, which encourages women in engineering and tech to post pictures on social media to dispel stereotypes and highlight the extremely poor percentage of women in the industry – if you would like to get involved in the campaign you can find more info here.
