Strengthening AI Security: Cisco Named First Technology of UK’s Laboratory for AI Security Research

1 min read

Following the recent announcement at CYBERUK that we’ve become the first technology company to be part of the Laboratory for AI Security Research (LASR), we’re excited to have the opportunity to draw on Cisco’s leadership in cybersecurity and innovation to play a role in advancing research, knowledge sharing, and the development of practical solutions as part of this important UK initiative.

LASR brings together government, industry, and academia to promote innovation and drive world-leading research into the impact of artificial intelligence on national security. Responding to the rapid evolution of AI and the need for the UK and its allies to grow their economies securely, it builds on the UK’s proud history as the birthplace of modern computing and forms part of broader government efforts to strengthen cyber resilience and deliver economic growth.

Collaboration to protect AI technologies and counter AI-enabled threats

With this landmark partnership, we’ll be contributing global expertise in AI security to support the UK in protecting AI technologies and countering AI-enabled threats. It also marks an important step in deepening our relationship with the UK Government on matters of national cyber security and technological resilience. Working closely with public sector stakeholders, our aim is to drive forward collaboration that strengthens the UK’s cyber defences in the age of AI.

In Cisco’s AI Readiness Report, cybersecurity emerged as the top priority for AI deployment, with 42% of respondents having achieved advanced security deployment. However, the report also highlighted a concerning gap in the infrastructure readiness needed to secure AI technologies. As LASR aims to address the evolving challenges posed by AI security, Cisco’s findings underline that many networks are ill-equipped to meet the demands of AI workloads and there is still much work to happen.

Uniting government, academia, and industry for cutting-edge research

Focused on boosting UK AI resilience, fostering growth and driving cutting-edge research into the security challenges posed by AI, Cisco will collaborate with Government, Universities and SMEs that are part of LASR, to expand the research and innovation capacity of the Lab.

With collaboration, we can shape a future where AI technologies can be both transformative and secure and our participation in LASR underscores our commitment to securing the future of AI and supporting the UK’s leadership in cyber innovation.
