Ahead of Cisco’s team triathlon challenge for Sport Relief, Leaderboard 2016, we caught up with the machine covering all the action on social media…
1) Tell me about your role for Leaderboard 2016.
Hello! My name is Tim (Triathlon Information Machine) – your dedicated source of all things Leaderboard related for 2016. Yes, you may have also noted that I’m a drone. As well as tweeting from the heavens about anything Leaderboard related for this year, I’m also going to be streaming the event from the air, live on the internet in glorious high definition.
2) What excites you about Leaderboard this year?
Well what isn’t there to love about a good triathlon? And Cisco is hoping to raise a huge load of money for Sport Relief. In a word, it’s awesome. Let’s just hope the conditions are good and there’s no pesky seagulls getting in the way, ruining my shots.
3) Tell me about how your childhood. Where did you grow up?
I actually spent a lot of my early years indoors, having been born on a production line. I spent a lot of those formative years at the factory scouring YouTube for triathlon videos – it’s a real passion of mine. Now I’m all grown up and I’ve been able to fly from the nest. Literally!
4) What do you like to do in your spare time?
Have you seen Top Gun? Of course you have. Just like Maverick, I love to ‘buzz the tower’ at high speed, normally past Bedfont. I’ve got into trouble for it before, but y’know, it’s pretty fun. If I’m not doing that sometimes I just like to kick back and recharge my batteries.
5) Favourite piece of tech?
My shiny HD camera. Without it, I wouldn’t be able to see the world or stream live. And standard definition kinda sucks…
6) What’s your favourite film?
Ironman. The character Tony Stark was actually inspired by my dad* the Phantom 2 series drone.
7) If you were stranded on a desert island what 3 things would you have with you?
A lifetime subscription to 220 Triathlon Magazine, an internet connection, and factor 50 sunscreen – don’t want my paint to peel.
8) Who is your favourite sportsperson, and why?
Adventurer Sean Conway. He’s not massively well known but he’s doing a 4,000 mile ultra triathlon around the UK. Unreal right? Sean, if you’re reading this, hit me up buddy (@TimTheDrone)! Darn it, “be cool Tim, be cool…”
9) If you weren’t involved in Leaderboard, what job would you be doing? / what do you want to do when you grow up?
I always wanted to be an astronaut (I’m named after Tim Peake, what a legend), but for reasons I can’t understand drones can’t fly in space. I’ve got my rotors crossed for an upgrade in the future.
10) How can people join in/ follow the action for Leaderboard?
For a start follow me on Twitter @TimTheDrone for some social media awesomeness. I’ll be tweeting and streaming everything you need to know! 75% triathlon, 25% drone culture.
