Putting video at the heart of collaboration

April 20, 2015

It’s time to get back to sharing ideas. Did you know that nearly four out of five executives see online video as an effective tool business communications?

With the continued growth of mobile, and technology advancing at an ever increasing pace, it has fuelled a surge in use of online video which is opening new doors and opportunities for businesses.

88% of firms are giving staff mobile devices to boost productivity, and 87% of remote users feel more connected when using video according to Gigaom research.

Furthermore, by 2018 more than half (55%) of all internet traffic will be video, according to the Cisco Visual Networking Index.

This form of communication is very much the norm for businesses, underlined by the fact three quarters of global business leaders are now deploying video collaboration tools. The expectation is that making a video call should be just as easy as making a phone call.

And with it fosters a new wave of creativity and collaboration. Technology is allowing us to bring conversations to life, transcending distant boundaries and time zones. In turn, this boosts productivity and innovation within an organisation.

Next week Cisco will be at the annual UC Expo in London – the largest Unified Communications and Collaboration event in Europe. Video can sit at the heart of collaboration within a business and we look forward to exploring this in more depth at the conference.

Ahead of the event, we wanted to share five key considerations for making the most of video in your business.  You can find even more detail in our infographic here

Make sure it works together
When it comes to deploying video collaboration, the goal is to get all of the pieces to work together: voice, video, web conferencing. That way, everyone can participate fully even with the tools they already have.

Plan for more

If you design an infrastructure that can only handle today’s needs, you’re setting yourself up for failure tomorrow. Focus on scalability so your solution can grow with your business.

Pick the right endpoints
Video deployment isn’t one size fits all. It’s about how people work and about understanding the right endpoint for the situation so people can be their most effective. Look at your needs, growth strategy, and user profiles for the best solution to transform your workplace.

Maximise collaboration

It’s more than meetings. An intelligent video solution lets you record and stream key discussions or announcements and create live events in virtual town halls. Even training gets better and less expensive with video. The end result is more productivity and better talent development at a lower cost.

Provide solutions your people can trust

Users are more likely to see benefits from video collaboration when everything works. Understand internal and external support services and only work with vendors who have experience delivering end-to-end video collaboration solutions
