A fish face, some candles and saving the World #EarthHour

1 min read

According to a recent study by the International Energy Agency by 2020, an estimated $120 billion will be wasted globally on energy consumption. One of the main causes is that many devices use about the same amount of power even when on standby.

In 2011, the UK public sector spent £1.9 billion on electricity within their buildings, with IT accounting for almost £500m of it!

Increasingly, IT plug load is the 2nd largest consumer of electricity within an organisation, consuming 25-40% of an enterprise’s total energy spend. IT devices (PCs and laptops, etc.), all contribute to commercial buildings being the top energy users and often, ENERGY WASTERS.

Don’t be an Energy waster!

Cisco is proud to be supporting WWF Earth Hour 2015 on 28th March. Launched in Australia in 2007, Earth Hour has now grown to become the world’s biggest environmental event, mobilising people around a range of issues from protecting our oceans to energy efficiency.

In short, Earth Hour see’s people across the World turning off their lights to help raise awareness of the world’s energy issues and among the famous landmarks that will dim their lights are the Houses of Parliament, Buckingham Palace, Tower Bridge and the London Eye.  In total an estimated 10 million Britons expected to take part. We at Cisco UK & Ireland will be taking part in this event too, at 8.30pm on Saturday 28th March, by turning our lights off.

So don’t just sit there. Grab some candles, make a donation and use #EarthHour to show your support!
