Alternate consumption models and the emergence of cloud

April 24, 2019

As enterprises are focusing more on their core business processes, IT is becoming critical to create ‘digital enterprises’. Beyond cost savings, organizations need to solve a wider range of customer business problems. This means everyday they must perform a delicate balancing act: working to outperform competitors with available IT resources  and deliver an application-centric, cloud-enabled, digitally transformed environment.

While focusing on core business processes, enterprises are looking for models where they get charged on outcomes while partners manage all complexities behind that. Cloud offers wonderful flexibility from Infrastructure to Software and Platforms for multiple players and developers to host and offer outcome based models.

To cite an example, just a few years ago, cloud services was all about dollars and cents. Today enterprises view cost savings as a ‘given’ for any cloud service. Increasingly, users are demanding that their cloud service providers (CSPs) deliver enterprise-ready, value-added, easily scaled services with security embedded within. They want hosted cloud solutions can be deployed on demand, tuned to specific dynamic workloads, and can be easily interconnected.

In other words, organizations have to go beyond cost savings and help customers solve a wide range of business problems. Be it enterprise-grade security services, managed backup and disaster recovery or compliance customers demand the ability to implement what they need, order it quickly and deploy it in minutes. They want you to reduce their time to market, lower their risk, and help them be more agile and innovative.

From a services standpoint, there are ample opportunities for CSPs to stand out in the marketplace if they have  the infrastructure and vision to deliver cloud services in ways customers want to consume them. Software as a Service (SaaS), IT as a Service (ITaaS), Application development and Managed private or hybrid cloud.

To be successful it is important to build business models around ‘flexibility’. By working with more partners’, it is possible to meet a greater range of unique customer demands and  grow.

The Cisco Cloud Center

This solution is a hybrid cloud management platform that securely provisions infrastructure resources and deploys application components and data in more than 19 data center and private and public cloud environments. Supporting a wide range of uses in enterprise IT organizations, including application migration, DevOps automation across various cloud environments, the solution enables dynamic capacity augmentation within or between clouds.

Cisco Cloud Center can serve as the foundation for a comprehensive hybrid IT-as-a Service (ITaaS) delivery strategy. The Cisco Cloud Center solution employs a two-part architecture that simplifies deployment, enables fast time-to-value, and allows users to start small and scale as needed. The solution works for one application in one cloud, as well as for a full multitenant cloud service provider at scale and everything in between. The unique Cisco Cloud Center architecture delivers management capabilities that span the boundaries of applications, clouds, and users.

The Cisco Cloud Center solution offers compelling benefits for modern IT organizations whether they are just starting with user self-service in a data center, migrating their first application to the cloud, or running the second or third iteration of a hybrid IT strategy that includes a portfolio of data center and private and public cloud processing services.

Cisco UCS

Likewise, Cisco UCS is excellent for building the cloud solutions that can move business forward with private and hybrid cloud services. This programmable and unified system and its associated management capabilities give the agility and choice that businesses need. Built for cloud deployments Cisco UCS can help meet IT and business goals by enabling self-service, infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS), platform as-a-service (PaaS), and software-as-a-service (SaaS) capabilities and solutions.

Cisco UCS gives flexibility to determine how, when, and where resources are deployed and used. A single unified network fabric allows to connect every resource equally. Cisco UCS is designed to deliver greater computing density, virtualization, and network simplicity in a smaller, more cost-effective footprint it helps make cloud infrastructure and business more agile.  The high-performance, low-latency, and deterministic characteristics of Cisco UCS help ensure the speed of business applications and the quality of the user experience. Its integrated network services provide high-speed connectivity and high availability and reduce the security risks associated with multitenant environments. Need we say more!
