Digital Companies – What is the Secret Behind?

Two weeks ago at the Red Hat Summit 2016 in Vienna I had the opportunity to meet with customers, partners, analysts and members of the open source community to hear their challenges. We generally agreed that digitization is the answer to the ongoing industry disruption. In other words, in order to survive companies of all types need to become digital companies by leveraging new technologies to drastically evolve their business models, or change how they engage with customers, employees and suppliers, for instance. Besides this, everyone I spoke to agreed, that there is a lot to do, even if IT automation is reducing manual interventions and no one needs to be feared of being displaced by a machine or algorithm is this area of IT operation.

The attendance of more than 350 participants clearly proofed that Open Source solutions are often the right choice for IT departments as they look to navigate ongoing transformations. Particularly as the cloud industry increasingly turns towards open source technology as a catalyst for innovation, the opportunity for Cisco, Red Hat and our partners to capitalize on this market disruption is immense.
Focus on business outcomes
Having worked together successfully on unified computing and networking for years, already six years ago Cisco and Netapp are introducing FlexPod to accelerate collaboration. Since then the offering around FlexPod includes building blocks around OpenStack, Application Centric Infrastructure and IT Automation. We are now well positioned to help our customers jointly deploy, implement and run complete stack and focus on business outcomes.
Based on Cisco Validated Design for Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform on FlexPod Datacenter that allows our enterprise customers to leverage their investment in Cisco and NetApp as they deploy OpenStack (read more here at “Red Hat, NetApp and Cisco Collaborate to deliver an enterprise-grade OpenStack integrated infrastructure solution”). This new solution is another response to the current trend in data center design towards integrated infrastructures which can be confidently deployed by customers for faster time to outcomes and results. This Cisco validated Design will be delivered by our eco-system of partners.
