How can we address the cybersecurity skills gap?

This week as part of European Cybersecurity Awareness Month, we’re talking about the incredibly important issue of skills.

In our industry, about a quarter of security jobs are left unfulfilled for 6 months – unfortunately because businesses can’t find the right levels of expertise needed to fight modern cyber threats.

So, unless we as an industry do something drastically about that now, that gap is only going to get wider…as the bad guys certainly aren’t going to give us any breaks soon.

In this Facebook Live broadcast from outside the British Library, we chatted about how we do just that, and also offered advice about how businesses can better leverage the existing resource you have (or are indeed looking for) so that you can be more prepared for any unsanctioned attempts on your data.

I'm the Marketing Storyteller for IT Security for Cisco's UK & Ireland region. That means I spend most of my time researching what those dastardly hackers are up to, and I also have a lot of conversations with my much cleverer research colleagues, in order to create content which seeks to inform people about the current threat landscape against businesses. IT Security is a subject I'm immensely passionate about, and what's most important to me is helping customers protect their livelihoods, and educating users not to leave the back door open.

Outside of Cisco a big part of my life is improvisational comedy - I participate in weekly workshops at The Improvisation Foundation and perform on stage with my lovely fellow workshoppers once a month.

Other than that I'm a big nerd when it comes to movies, as my blogs will no doubt unveil.
