Why we’ll be cheering during the London 2012 Olympic Games
We’ve been saying at Cisco for a while now that the London 2012 Olympic Games will be the most connected Games ever – and for good reason. The IT systems for London 2012 will process 30 per cent more information than any other Olympic Games in history, and I’m proud that Cisco networking equipment is at the heart of it.
Our network infrastructure will run at 94 sites. The Games Network will connect all competition and event-critical sites. That includes 26 sports, 34 venues, 21,000 media and broadcasters and 5,770 team officials. We’ve also set up 1,800 wireless access points and installed 16,500 IP telephones.
Connectivity is the key to ensuring continuity during the festivities and we expect the network to help facilitate this massive international party.
And that’s just the start.
In London, our Cisco House – which overlooks the main Olympic stadium – will showcase a dynamic connected environment. Instead of focusing on what Cisco makes, the facility will focus on what Cisco makes possible.
The Cisco House executive experience will illustrate the opportunities countries, cities and organizations have to transform themselves with a dynamic connected and collaborative environment. The facility will feature best practice sharing, case studies and an in-depth look at the benefits of an integrated architectural approach. We’ll also proudly host teens at Cisco House for Teen Tech City, which offer up ideas about the future of education, and hopefully, inspire tomorrow’s innovations.
